  • Sometimes students become too reliant on the calendar and To-Do list. This creates a problem where they miss the important content on pages.
  • One way to encourage students to read those pages is to add them to the Student To-Do list.

Instructure releases a product update - called a Sprint - every three weeks.

Canvas Deploy Notes: April 20th

  • Assignment Submissions. Submission_type_ field has an updated interface.
  • Rich Content Editor. This update provides consistency and ensures all LTI tools display in the External Tool menu.


New Quizzes

  • Item Analysis Report. Data is updated. 
  • New Quizzes Moderate Page. A configure icon is added to the score column and in the View log, the question position displays.


Canvas Deploy Notes April 24th

Discussion Board Redesign
  • The Discussion/Announcements Redesign feature preview change log is updated.
Note: Discussion Board Redesign will be enforced in July.


Canvas Deploy Notes: May 8th

Gradebook

  • Message Students Who... Have Submitted. Update
    • This feature is enhanced to allow instructors to message students who have submitted an assignment. 
    • Messaging options include contacting students: 
    • Who have submitted on time.
    • Who have graded on time assignments.
    • Who have ungraded on time assignments. 
  • Feature Workflow
    • Select the Have Submitted option.
    • Select the radio button for your choice



  • Message Students Who...Have Not Submitted - Update
    • The feature is updated to include a checkbox allowing instructors to exclude excused students from the message.
    • Feature Workflow
      • Check Skip excused students when messaging to remove them from the distribution list.

Rich Content Editor

  • Find and Replace Plugin In the Rich Content Editor is available.
  • Feature Workflow






1. Select the Find field to enter the keyword.
2. Use the Replace with field for the replacement.
3. Use the Replace All button to replace all items simultaneously
or
4. the Replace button to replace a single item.
5. If there are multiple items to replace, use the Previous
and
6. Next buttons to scroll through each individual item.

  • The Canvas interface for teachers and students looks a little different. Often, it can be helpful to see the Canvas course modules laid out exactly how your students will view them.

Tip 2: Page Links for Table of Contents

  • Create a Page with hyperlinks to additional pages for an easy table of contents.

  • Canvas has four types of assignment submissions:
    • No Submission In Blackboard is "adding a Grade Center Column."
    • Online There are five choices for online assignment submissions.
      • File Upload for annotating student work in SpeedGrader

  • Here are a few ideas and tools for feedback:
      • The conversation is connected to the specific assignment.

Tip 1: Using HTML to Customize Page

  • Word of mouth is that you can use HTML to customize your Canvas page(s) by adding tabs.
  • Tabs are a way to house multiple pieces of information in one area.

Tip 2: Canvas Secret Surprise: Undelete

  • If you've ever deleted something in Canvas, there is a way to recover it! Who knew?! 
  • View this short video tutorial to learn how to restore a deleted assignment, quiz, or other Canvas items.
